Hi all,

I'm desperately in the market for a new phone, yes, I own a Sony k750i!

I have £500 to spare and am looking for a smart phone. I currently own an iPad so I'd like to stay away from an iPhone as I'd like something different.

Important features to me:

Wifi has to be good
Easy, clear web browsing
Good quality build
Decent battery life

And generally just an all round decent device.

The Samsung Galaxy 2 comes to mind, but is it the best?

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

Samsung fits the bill except for quakity build. The plastic they make it from is just plain nasty.

And why different? Iphone 5 out this month and I would wait for that tbh

Does it have to be on PAYG

£500 is a lot of money, you can get a Samsung galaxy S 2 for £400, but you would probably be better off getting it on a 24 month contract, so then you can upgrade your phone after 2 years.

SGSII is the best android phone going. If you'r ebuying now it's the one to get.

However I would wait for the iPhone 5 to be announced, they normally have slightly better build and battery life.

If you're wanting to buy a phone now and it has to be an Android phone, then get the Samsung Galaxy S II. The Sensation may fit you better but the battery life isn't great and the build quality isn't particularly good, even though it looks like it is.

However, you should wait for the iPhone 5 (30~ days until you'll know when you can buy it), it's the sensible thing to do.

You own an iPad but don't won't iPhone. I can't understand why people who do that. You have to buy different apps, problems with cross media comparability. Added complexity on syncing.
But then again media devices I want as simple as possible.

No one else pick up on this post ? Utter carp 24 month contract , but then you can upgrade when 24 months is up :roll eyes:

Juts wait for the iPhone 5 to appear you like what you see and can find it in stock then buy it.

If not get SGII pretty straight forward imo

The 16GB (or perhaps 32 if they make a 64) one will likely be £500.

doubt it, look at the crazy prices the iphone4 was going for when released. Apple sure do know how to market and release:eek:

it does seem both the big players are now saying no to flash, but I just can't understand people who can live without it on their phones:confused:

They were going for crazy prices on the bay and the like but from the apple store/shops it was £500 as will be the new one

Apple were selling the 16GB version for £500 on release...

It's a phone, it's very easy to live without Flash (for the vast majority of people).

Aren't they releasing a 8GB version of the iPhone or something during the same time as an "affordable" option? I'm sure I've read this somewhere.

As the world waits for Apple to release the iPhone 5, Reuters is reporting that Cupertino may be refreshing the iPhone 4, as well. According to two anonymous sources "with knowledge of the matter," an unnamed Korean manufacturer has already begun producing parts for a cheaper, 8GB version of the smartphone, slated to launch within the next few weeks. As for that next-gen handset, the insiders went on to say that the iPhone 4S / iPhone 5 will feature a more spacious touchscreen, better antenna and eight megapixel shooter, and that Apple is indeed aiming for a late September launch, after having already asked manufacturers Hon Hai and Pegatron to prep their facilities for the production of 45 million units, altogether. Details, as usual, are still scarce at this point, but we'll let you know as soon as we get more information.

Seems it will be an 8GB version of the iPhone 4, but this may well hit the "affordable" smartphone market quite hard i reckon :) if the price is right of course.

im going to be controversial here and say, do you really need to spend £500 on a phone, your using a k750i and have managed fine so far.

spend £250 on a phone that should be able to easily cover your "important features".

why does it have to be the best? when you buy a lawn mower, do you ask b and q, if it is the best?

i could agree with you had you said, i want the phone with the best camera, or a phone with the best sat nav, or a phone with the best build quality.

but you just stated the best all round device, do you actually need/use any of those features? i ask since your using a k750i now want to make the jump to a £500 phone, just seems a bit odd.

a bit like someone jumping from a 5 year old ford focus to a brand new bentley.

If you must spend over £400 its between the Galaxy S2 and the Sensation.

I personally own a HTC Sensation and Im very happy with it, get good battery life after calibrating it well and wouldnt swap it for a Galaxy S2. However Im going to recommend the GS2 as first choice and the Sensation as second choice to you.

Why?

I think that overall the GS2 has the edge, its just personally I prefere HTC sense UI over the samsung UI and I also prefere the looks and feel of the Sensation. Also coming from a Desire that I was very happy with I wanted to stick with HTC.

Also I disagree that the sensation has better build quality than the GS2. I think they both have decent build quality and its down to preference there really.

You also mentioned good Wifi is important to you. Since a lot of people have reported problems with the Sensation and wifi on certain routers on android forums, this is another reason Im recommending the GS2 over the sensation for you. NOTE: I have never personally had any WiFi problems on my own Sensation though.

Cheers
