This is for my missus mum+son

She has a new 17" monitor + keyboard mouse and speakers ect ect

But needs a new base unit "hers at present is a packard bell 500mhz i believe" hehe :eek:

So needing case/psu + all the rest for £500 or as close as can be if there is a few pennys over i hope its worth it :D

games hes said he will play are age of empires 3 + the godfather.

what do u guys think??? I can build them just needing a bit of help in the spec department thanks!

id go with this option, but change CPU to the Athlon 64 3500+, if possible.
Very nice system for the price.
This graphics card is far better than the 7600GS.


BTW i see you have a 6600GT. When you get this lot be sure to take the X1800GTO out & put it in your rig & place your 6600GT into this new one. :)

thanks guys for the time u have taken to prepare an order for me! i was thinking of buying a new graphics card and using my old one in there rig. will see what happens tho thanks guys also if anyone else has any more suggestions id be very happy to take them thanks!

I was looking @ getting a side window'd case for them as the son im sure would love it! anyone got any better ideas on a case for abou the same money bareing in mine that the ones above come with psus! thanks for you help

It would save money if he brought one of the bundles, since quite a few of them include that board and a retail CPU, the big difference is the memory included, but personally 2gb to me seems a little overkill, it'll help but its not a necessary extra cost.

Personally i'd price compare the parts with other places also, though i can say now that OCuk will do the best price out on the Graphics card, and personally for that budget i'd spend more money on having a x1800, since i myself went from a 6600 to a x1800 and i absolutely love how it blows away the 6600 by far in any game. I suppose thats proberly coz i always run my games at 1600 x 1200. Anything lower then 1600 x 1200 it would proberly be a waste of money getting an x1800 since some lower priced cards will do full detail at lower resolutions.

On the topic of CPU, i can't see anyone is recommending anything above a 3000 or 3200, since they will all pretty much do the same overclock, i mean even a small OC of about 200mhtz won't push the CPU much higher temp wise.

It might be wise to wait a week or two and just follow the prices, they change and drop so often you could see a £30 saving for just waiting a few days extra, so a little patience and watching prices could get you better hardware for the same price, or more for less.

Either way, i think you'll enjoy your new parts... ;)

ok needed to make the case hip and added red neons as the 6600gt has a red leds "don't look nice with uvs in mine as my case is uv themed. here goes:

That spec looks fine to me, with the exception of the PSU, get an ATX 2.0 at least, for compatibility and future proofing.

that looks good to me, you could get an ATX 2 PSU, but the one you have listed should be ok anyway.

You could save a bit by getting the 3200 instead of the 3500, I'm sure you won't notice that much of a difference, and if you're going to overclock, they'll both clock to pretty much the same anyway :)
