Hi all. I asked for help regarding this build a few weeks back but wasn't really clear as to whatI required. After much self debate I think I've got an idea of what I need but am a complete novice when looking at todays vast catalogue of graphics cards and motherboards.

I'm setting a realistic budget of £500 for everything excluding a monitor which I'm buying separately with a budget of £200. This monitor would be used as a pc, xbox and ideally digital tv display so any suggestions welcome (I'm leaning towards the LG m227wd at the mo).

I can get hold of Windows 7 for £30 through my student email so my entire build (incl keyboard) is ideally looking at about £470-£500 ex an OS.

On to the pc itself, I need a unit capable of displaying ideally 1080p footage without lag, since I'm intending on editing some juggling/diabolo footage captured with my hd camera. I won't be using power hungry editing software but need to be able to process the footage without the graphics card struggling.

The pc won't be used for heavy gaming at all (I've got the xbox for that) so if this affects the choice of graphics card then I need one more suited to video processing.

Other than that it would be used for general web browsing, word processing etc. Something semi future proof would be good but if it raises the budget then don't worry. I have no product knowledge when it comes to components so be as literal as you can :)

Cheers for any help you can offer, lou.

I'd look at perhaps a second hand video card - you can get an 8800GT for £40 now, and it'll cover your usage nicely with the room for a little online gaming if it takes your fancy.

That gives you £430-460 for the rest, which should get you a nice little machine. Do you want speakers etc, or will the monitor/TV be handling that? Mouse and keyboard?

The reason I ask is that people can have slightly different ideas on what a "full" pc is, some want a box with the basics in, while others will expect a printer, scanner, speakers, mouse, keyboard and the rest. Even speakers+keyboard+mouse can knock a good £50 off your budget.

how about this , you dont need an extra GPU with this board as it has onboard 4200 512mb
Quad core foryour video editing, and a blu ray drive for good measure :)

Thanks for your help chaps, appreciated as ever. Audigex, Ixcluding the monitor, I'd like to include a wireless keyboard within the budget (I've already got a logitech wireless mouse). I'm looking at some 2.1 logitech speakers to be included in the budget, no need to consider a printer at the moment.

Re your spec advice, will I get away with onboard graphics when displaying HD footage? Apologies if I'm completely missing something but assumed I'd still need a graphics card for video processing or in brief are they only necessary for gaming?

I think I'd leave the blu-ray drive but thanks for the reccomendation anyway :) Can anyone back up the spec reccomendations above or make any tweaks at all? It's my first time building a pc for this use and just need clarity before parting with my hard earned cash.

Thanks again
