£500 Sandybridge Spec Please

My mates old Pentium 4 system has finally died and he's asked me to build him a new system for around £500. Now he's not much of a gamer, any games he plays will be on his PS3... so a monster GFX card isn't required. Don't want onboard GFX though.

I'd like to build him a Sandybridge based system with the following features:

-Quiet (as close to silent as possible)
-Decent PSU so he could upgrade GFX card in future if he wanted to
-1TB HDD
-Case with decent cable management so I can get it looking tidy for him
-DVD Rewriter
-No OS / Monitor required!

Any suggestions would be great!

You could save the money from a ATI 5450 and put it towards an i5-2400/2500 because looking at these, the integrated graphics (HD2000) look on par with the 5450 anyway

Thanks for the suggestions guys, just done a bit of Window shopping with him so he can get a feel for screen sizes and Windows 7 (he's only ever used XP! :eek:

) and he has upped his budget to £600 but he wants that to include a 1080p monitor (20-22").

I'm happy to go with onboard graphics as sk82jack has suggested as it looks like they offer similar performance to low end graphics cards on Sandybridge.

He also mentioned that he would like a blu-ray player to take advantage of the 1080p screen. So to summarise the new requirements are:

-£600 budget
-Quiet (as close to silent as possible)
-On board graphics is fine
-Decent PSU so he could get a GFX card in future if he wanted to
-1TB HDD
-Case with decent cable management so I can get it looking tidy for him
-Blu-ray player with DVD rewriter
-No OS required!

a k series chip with a h61?, so add £40 to that for a p67 boarrd. Or save money on a non k chip.

The i5-2500k is currently on special so is cheaper than the i5-2500, plus the k comes with a free game so thought I might as well get it.

Will I be able to do a mild overclock on that board?

It wouldn't just be £40 for a new motherboard, there would be the cost of a grapics card as well, which will easily push it to an extra £100 minimum.

The K series chips has better integrated graphics than the non-k version.

Either get the h61 board, with a view to upgrade to a p67+graphics card later on, or wait for a z68 board which should be released soon, but waiting for a z68 will almost definitely push you out of budget.

This is what I read from another forum:

You can only adjust the BCLK on the h67 series. You're looking at 5% OC maybe 10% if your really lucky. You're pushing your luck with this type of OC. Adjusting the BCLK can will make the system unstable a lot faster than changing the multiplier and it won't compare at all to what you get on a p67 board.

I wouldn't bother personnaly. Stick to stock, it's plenty fast for anything.
