£500 sounder recommendations

Well below your budget but I picked up a refurbished Sonos Beam Gen 1 direct from Sonos for £269. Came in original box with cables and condition of unit was basically brand new.

I've just been using TV speakers for years and as it was my first foray into a soundbar, so I didn't want to spend too much money in case I didn't like it.

Wow.

Makes a big difference for TV and I was watching a Marvel film last night on Disney+ and it sounded epic.

It now also doubles up as my Radio and HiFi as it can stream BBC Sounds and Youtube Music/Spotify, all voice controlled via Google Assistant. I'm even tempted to pick up a couple of Sonos One speakers and have a true 5.1 set up now.

I'm not an audiophile and there might be better brands out there, but I'd recommend anything from Sonos based on my recent purchase (Beam Gen 2 is within budget at £425).

I have the Yamaha Yas-209 (with sub) in our living room and it's been a good investment. As Guru said above, it also doubles up as our HiFi and also has Alexa built in. I quite often Bluetooth Radio Garden to it too.

Think of all the movies you've watched on crappy TV speakers could have enjoyed with soundbar.

I know, tell me about it!

Wished I purchased one a lot sooner.

Hence why I'm now watching the Marvel films in timeline order on Disney+. :D

Not gamed on the PS4 for a few days, so imagine that's going to sound pretty good as well.

Even my wife who is a complete technophobe loves it. She's always asking the Google Assistant for things and asking it to play music from artists she loves.

I have been looking at the Gen 2 as I already have a Sonos 1 so in time could pick up a second for true surround.

Beam plus 2 surrounds has been awesome for me don’t even need a sub (well I don’t anyway) I like the setup as you can add to it later so you don’t need to blow a wad of cash at once.

From reviews it does seem the gen 2 is worth the extra money but is getting quite pricey. A refurb gen 1 is probably best bang for the buck.
