Hello,
I have a friend who would like me to build him a PC. Could you guys spec me a good PC for around the £500 mark? I was thinking going with conroe? here are the essentials that he will be looking for... A minumum of 2GB Ram, 500GB HDD and Windos Vista HP (these are all the things he asks for) everything else is up to you guys.

I wont need any speakers/mouse/keyboard

cheers

Dan.

If monitor is needed then you'll probably need a bigger budget. Also if he wants DX10 goodness a more expensive graphics card will be required.

you could drop the CPU to a e2160 or e2140 and still get 3GHz+ by OCing, a higher FSB will be needed though due to a lower multiplier.

change to HP32 bit if its more sutible for your needs

if you have a prefered DVD drive, then get it instead but i like pioneer

if a monitor is needed

Jak731 and Op, I wouldn't recommend Ocz Ram with the Abit IP35 board. There is a long line of people with default voltage issues caused with this combination - meaning you can't boot/post/enter the bios. Just swap the ram to geil / corsair and you'll be ok.

Ok sorry, he wont need a monitor, speekers, KB/mouse..

He wont be gaming hardly, he only plays on games like football manager etc.

Hows this?

Spec looks solid :)

Re: graphics card choice.

Just get the cheapest 2400 Pro, or a motherboard with onboard graphics. The 8500 is too expensive for a 2d card, and too carp for a gaming card.

for the price the 2600 is a better card. You really wont be able to play any games on a 8500 and to be honest not much on a 2600 either. The case is over priced for the pc. The Lian Li PC7 is a great case and would be better, could go even cheaper though. Note though you need to buy the bezels for the lian li cases as they ahve a very stylish aluminium design which makes the cheap plasticy optical drives real show up if you dont have a bezel. you cant beat the lian li cases tbh.
