Hi,

I'm looking to build a new base unit for £500. I don't need any peripherals or monitors, just the case and everything inside it. Stulid kindly spec'd me a computer before christmas which worked perfect.

I just wanted to check if there was any alternatives came to light in the last few months, and if this is still the best buy for my moneys worth? Any advice/help is much appreciated.

Thank you

hi stulid, no heat sink required?

also noticed on the motherboard page there is a warning about potential sandybridge issues.. im guessing this is nothing to be concerned about?

Cheers

Motherboard issue is only really a worry if you're going to be using more than 4 SATA ports. If in the future you are using more than 4 and you have any problems then you can get it replaced under warranty. No heatsink required as retail packaged chips come with the stock intel heatsink.

the retail cpu will come with a intel stock heatsink with the thermal paste applied.

the sandybridge issue is to do with some of the sata2.0 ports, less than 5% affected.

if you connect the HDD and optical drive to the SATA3.0 ports then no issues at all.

also you get a free replacement when the new revised chipsets are sent out to board makers, and then onto retailers.
