Due to my current PC woe's the Mrs has said 'spend £500 on new bits if you need to'.:D

Spec me people: CPU, Mobo, Ram and PSU (Intel and AMD). For info I have an Nvidia 8800gtx.

What have you currently got? and can you re-use any of it like case/psu?
What do you generally do on it?
How much hdd space do you need?
any special requirements like silent running or overclocking?

or you could go with a e8xx and 8500+ ram. But it all depends what your using it for.

Nice, thanks.

Is it worth picking up the Maximus Extreme for the extra £30 in case DDR3 prices take a tumble at some point?

No as ddr2 doesn't work in ddr3 slots. So if you got that board you would have to buy ddr3 ram. There are some boards with both ddr2 and ddr3 slots. But I don't think it's worth it.

Cheers Acid,

The last time i had anything to do with Intel was upgrading my SX-33 to a DX2-66 so thanks for answering my dim questions :)

Thanks

No need for DDR3 yet maybe not even until late next year :)

Maybe you can get the Corsair HX 520 instead. Very capable PSU if running a single GFX card rig ;) Money saved can go towards a better cooler than stock (maybe this).
