Hi Guys

Got a little spare cash for an upgrade, looking for advice as I'm a bit out of it these days.

What I need is Cpu, cooler, mobo, ram and a graphics card.

I'm coming from a i5 760, P55 and 6870. I will utilise my current Samsung SSD, Spinpoint F1 and OCZ ModXStream 600w PSU if possible.

I dont really overclock being honest, so while I can understand its an option, can we base it on no oc'ing for now?

General use is Diablo3, Day Z plus the usual minor games like CS, TF2 etc. Maybe some Skyrim, Fallout etc when they are out, but none to play for now.

I was thinking of the i5 3450 with a 7870? Not sure what memory would be useful and also, is 8gb enough these days?

(sry i got to mention overclock) :p
i still game on a i5 750 sometimes, its very stable overclocked
if it was my money id get urself a nice new monitor?

or maybe a crazy good gfx card n save some for new intel cpu's next year?

I know you said no overclocking, but its there as an option.

Do you have a suitable OS for the 8GB of RAM?

Running windows 7 64bit

You would recommend the 3570 over the cheaper i5's? I assume its worth the extra price (not much) for the base performance increase?

Also, do you reckon for a little more I should just plump for the Twin Frozr version of the 7870? I can go a bit over budget, but want it close to £500 so I dont go too far as usual

Stulid spec is spot on.

You get a bit of a base performance from the k version. Though the main difference is the over clock ability. So easy and very safe with sandy and ivy, as its multiplier based.

I have a gtx 460 twin frost. Its a great cooling solution and would recommend it on any card.

Thanks Phusion.

If I go with the "Sapphire HD 7870 GHz Edition 2048MB" instead of the VTX, would that be worth the £15 more?

In terms of a cooler, id like something quite quiet if possible while running stock, is the Hyper ok noise wise?

Lastly, much difference between the gigabyte mobo you have shown or the "Asus P8Z77-V LX" thats on offer this week for a little less?

Ive got it to £487 with the above gfx and mobo but no cooler.

HD 7950 will be better than HD 7870,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE Sleeping Dogs PC Game £239.99
Total : £251.39 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Cooler Master Hyper 612S CPU cooler noise level is quiet and is decent cooler for overclocking

Both motherboard is the same, but I would go for Gigabyte

Im not up to linking properly but what I have now is:

1 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE Sleeping Dogs PC Game £239.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £179.99
1 x Asus P8Z77-V LX Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.19
1 x TeamGroup Elite 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38192M1600HC11DC) £27.95
1 x Thermalright True Spirit 120 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/AM2/AM3/FM1) £24.98

Which takes me to £552.10, a little over budget but seems to meet my needs?

This is what I went for in the end guys based on todays offers:

Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W)
MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Thermalright HR-02 Macho CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1155/LGA1366)
Corsair Dominator 1600 (I already have 4gb so ordered another 4 not from OC)

All this is due tomorrow/friday from OCers bar the memory (didnt have any in).

Came out at £468 in the end, but the Gfx is a little less than I wanted, but thought I could crossfire at a later date if need be?

Cant crossfire on that board I believe? Or at least even if you could it won't crossfire very well. Also why the MSI board, its quite gimped compared to the others.

I went for the MSI just because it was a reasonable price, 3 yr warranty and ive had no issues with MSI so far with other products.

I may not crossfire of course, but I did believe it was CF capable.. doh

Recon I should change the order in the morning anyway?

Thanks for the info.

Not sure which I'll go for out of the two as crossfire is a nice option but not 100% of course... I might.

I'll change the order in the morning over the phone and have a think about which of the two.

Thanks for all the help.

No probs.

Z77 D3H can support crossfire but only at x4 x4 (is that how it works guys)
Z77X - D3H can support crossfire x8 x8 and SLI and has more SATA connectors, not to mention looks nicer.

But its your choice, both are on offer and the price difference is £27
