Hi there all, thanks for reading.

I upgraded my computer 3 years ago and it's that time again, for the last year i've not been keeping with technology and i've not been on my PC because it was my last year of university.....

From my old computer i am keeping :

  • Corsair 620W PSU
  • Thermaltake Kandalf Aluminum Case (VA9000)

And that's it really so i need the rest to put into it... been looking around this forum for the last few days and looking at what you guys have been suggesting to other people and discussing...

I could spend more but it seems as if £500 would be ample for me to play Aion when it comes out and finally play crysis.

This is what i came up with...

Don't know if it's worth going quad core or not ? those tri cores seem cool. Intel i7 instead ?

Looking forward to your replies.

Edit: Any Hard drive suggestions would be appreciated also.

yeah what youve specced looks good, HDD wise Id look at western digital caviar blacks, whatever size you need, 500gig, 640gig or 1Tb, maybe even 2 in RAID0 for a nice speed boost
Edit: you could buy the bits separate but you'd be getting the same as in the bundle so its upto you

if you want to stick to 500 pounds btu with a hdd i would look at the 4850x2 series theyrre fast and also about 100 pounds less then yours and should play crysis just fine

Could you not push your e6300 any further? If it can be oc'ed to around 3.5ghz, it will be plenty for games, no need for a new cpu/mobo/ram bundle.

could do but to be fair i just want to get everything brand new... having a few problems with my hardware atm anyway.

are these i7s better than quad core ? i might push my price range and get...

*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz / Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard / Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle + World in Conflict Game

+

XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

....

hmm buying in 2weeks so will decide then, might just stick with original spec,
thanks for the replies guys.

I would do that ^ I7 + 4890, in a month or two add another 4890 for Xfire :D

on a side note, you pay 40 to 60 quid for that oc and it's quite easy to obtain yourself.

If your just gaming you wont see any if much iprovement with the i7. Infact if you go with i7 and a worse graphics card it will probably be worse. The i7's strength is in multithreaded aps (ie not games at the moment as hardly any utalise more than 2 cores). If your using photoshop or video encoding then go for i7 and 4890. If your gaming go for the AMD and 4870x2 it will be much better.
