this probbley gets asked a lot, but i couldnt find it in the search

would 500MB of data be enough for push email, facebook, web browsing now and then and msn messenger?

Also, on phone tarrifs, Orange are saying "3GB Wifi", does that mean you get charged for using your own wifi connection!?

I wasn't sure, so reset my stats on my 3G and let it roll for a month. Didn't even use 200mb in the end. Though I don't really use Facebook, I do travel about a lot which usually ends up in a fair bit of forum browsing/general web use. I think you use a lot less with normal day to day pottering than you think, it's simply the mental effect of having a limit on what was previously (for most with iphones) an unlimited service.

email , facebook and messenger apps use very little data , well unless you sit on the bus browsing through photo album after photo album

i personally seem to have 'available' wifi wherever i go and dont come close to 500mb on my 3g

i assume the 3gb wifi bit they mention is for something like BT's wifi network , for example newcastle city centre is all covered by wifi buy you use a password from bt to logon and use it , i guess orange arrange you account or do something similar

It really depends - download a few podcasts, web browsing, few youtube videos, couple of apps and you could probably easily go over 500mb

The 3GB wifi thing is right although I dont really have any stats on how many people use it. I'd speculate very little. 500mb is enough for about 90% of people I reckon but if you can't wait for the latest youtube/podcast and you expect to do more than around 16meg on average per day, you may need more.

I've done 300 mb in the last 2 weeks and seem to average around 1gb per month. I use it for the usual browsing on the bus, winning arguments in the pub, email, youtube and spotify.

If I had a 500mb limit then I could pretty much forget downloading albums on the go that I suddenly realise I want to listen to on the way home.

Realise that although X mb may be enough for your current usage but it may not cut it 12 months down the line. If you suddently develop a taste for a data hungry app then you are a little bit cattled.

500mb is not enough for anyone, I have a 3gig limit and I love it. I could not function on 500mb. Its not a new thing either Ive had my desire 4 months. The reason mostly is I like to watch a lot of tvcatchup, and radio stations., im always on google. I regularly reach 2.5gig. T-mobile must love me. :D
I think people think 500mb is enough, because they have been forced to adapt to it, if the chains where taken off then like myself they would steamroller 500mb in a week.
