just browsing on gum as I do for computer stuff and someone selling a tower with a QX6850, 2gb ram, 560ti sli, 500gb, 500w psu of some kind, now im not looking to buy as they want £150 for it lol and no picture, I just thought 500w was too low?

Just an FYI I don't think that system is worth £150. If you want a cheap upgrade look on the MM for a 2500k/2700k combo for around £100-£120.

In theory 500W is not really enough for that system, no matter how good quality the PSU.

Advertised TDP is 170W per GPU for GTX560TI and 130W for the QX6850. That's 470W without overclocking, leaving you 30W for everything else. 30W barely covers the losses in the motheroard VRM, nevermind power consumption from the chipset, PCIe bus, RAM, HDD, fans, & networking.

In practice you'd probably be "mostly ok" at stock clocks since you are unlikely to fully load CPU and GPU's but overclocking is verboten.
