500w PSU for top computer?

I've no reason to doubt it, the main reason for recommending higher wattage PSUs is to allow for a bit of expansion and overclocking. I've known for quite a while now that Corsair ran a quad-core with a SLi setup on their 620w PSU so I know you don't need a monster 1kw PSU for that sort of thing but generally I'd suggest erring on the side of too much power rather than too little. :)

Sounds about right. The whole world's gone Super-PSU mad, and everyone keeps speccing 600W PSUs for mid-range systems that really only need about 400w, or 500w to be future-proof.

PSUs are constantly being updated with new connectors anyway, so if you're the kind of person who upgrades everything at once every couple of years, you'll probably be best off buying a new PSU anyway. My point is that even the "future proof" argument seems irrelevant sometimes. Buy what you need and spend the money saved on better componenets. :)
