5080 & 5090 Coil Whine Thread

Check out the first sound bar on Igors Lab 5080 Vanguard review. Coil Whine sounds pretty bad to me on that one;

Crank dat

5090 Aorus Master on firestrike

And some weird fan spin down noise

Lmao that's a your fans gonna die sound

I bought 15 case fans a few years back and two of them made that sound when slowing down from high rpm and 6 months later those two were completely dead

Just been trying out my Palit 5080 for the first time. Happy to report zero coil whine and the card itself is very quiet even under full load. My 2060 used to sound like it was taking off from a runway in comparison.

Very happy.
It funny how the cheapest like the palit doesn't seem to have any coil whine

Due to power limit restriction?

No idea. Last gen the cards withe cheapest components had little to no coil whine. Where as the AIB using premium components like the strix and suprims had massive coil whine.

Not sure what to make of this current gen as I don't think there is enough sample size to base an opinion on which cards to avoid if you are acceptable to coil whine. But so far the palit users all seem to say they don't have any while rest of AIBs is a gamble.

@harmattan I don't understand why they can't use that resin. It like super dirt cheap and we use to use it making printed PCB,s when I use to work for a firm making the boards when home telephones were a thing.

It was so cheap we use muck about sticking it on everything like sealing co workers lunch boxes.

Which model? I'm in the queue for a Gaming Pro one.

Thanks for confirming. I've got the 5090 on pre-order and ******** bricks that'd it be a screamer like the 5080s.. I'm quite sensitive to coil whine and would absolutely hate having to send it back and wait another who-knows many months to get a different 5090 SKU..
I'm out tbh. High price, mediocre uplift over last gen, horrible stock situation and masses of coil whine to boot. Horrible experience all round. Coil whine is a solved problem, there is absolutely no excuse for it any more.

Wonder if it worth while drawin up some kind of table of the members and their cards and putting down if they had coil whine or not to paint a more clear picture to see if there is a pattern with certain manufacturers and SKU's with coil whine or not.

Returning my TUF OC, the coil whine is awful. What the hell are these manufacturers thinking shipping cards like this.

Sorry to hear that. I know that feeling all too well from last Gen. Asus got loads better with later 4090s as well. Wonder why they have gone back over.
