Hi

I just got my 5080 a few weeks ago and at first didn't use the cable supplied with the GPU as the PSU came with one single cable that worked fine....at first.
After a few reboots I tidied the cables and tried to turn on the PC and all I got was a black screen, so I got the cable from the GPU box, installed that and I've had no more problems. I also noticed on the bag it came in it said it has to be used, the trouble is it's ugly as hell and there's so many wires!!!
It was honestly really hard to push in the Corsair cable (honestly they say not to leave a gap but pushing that hard on a plug on a £1.2K GPU was worrying) and I wonder if maybe it had just been loose on the other end now but I'd like to go back to it if I can.
Is it safe to use the cable Corsair supplied as given the warning on the bag and stories of third party cables melting I'm a little reluctant to swap it back.

Theoretically a cable that is purpose built and comes with the psu should be fine. However, if Nvidia or the manufacturers of the gpu's would class the cables that come with the psu as a third party cable is a bit of a grey area as they could easily turn around and class one as such to get out of a warranty claim as you are not using the cable supplied with the card. Maybe if Nvidia designed their cable with longer tails so you don't have bulky connectors in plain view then more people would use them. Even better, ditch the damn things and go back to 8 pin pci-e cables which don't have any problems.

I remember reading stories about that awhile ago, that manufacturers would only warranty their own adapter, but I think nvidia said they'd accept an RMA with a burned connector regardless and I never heard any more about it since then.
