I have had 50mb now for a few months, when it was first installed everything was fine and speeds were easily reaching4mb or 5mb/sec. Now though I am struggling to stream a youtube video with it stopping and buffering.

Setup
--------

Virgin 50mb Modem
D-Link DIR-655 Router
Macbook Pro 15"

The router is running firmware 1.31EU with DHCP enabled, see all my router settings below:

When I do a speed test I get the following:

The connection is shocking, general browsing of web pages I am left waiting for things to happen. Downloading files I am lucky if I hit over 1mb/sec, just shocking considering this should be 50mb. I haven't touched any settings on my router since the day 50mb was installed and there is no difference between using WiFi (which I use most of the time) and plugged directly into the router via RJ45.

Can anyone please help suggest what could be wrong here?

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice mate, what screen shots should I be posting of the modem settings "Cable Modem Downstream"?

I'll post up all the details on there and see how I get on. Just for here this is my trace route results:

I'm seriously considering going back to 20mb or leaving VM, they are complete rip off merchants!

Setting my newsgroup port to 443 seems to gets things running at 5mb/sec. Looks like from some reading that ports 119, 563 and 8080 are all throttled by VM!

Yeah your right about the throttling and I think its a disgrace considering its 50mb, I mean WTF is the point in having it then?

I have since learned that using port 433 on usenet gives proper speeds, ports 119, 563 and 8080 are all throttled, pointless IMO!

Miss sold!
