50mm and 85mm

Its strength is its non-specificity. A fast 50 will do a good job in most situations.

I also find them good to use with extension tubes.

My dad is an old school B&W photographer and swears by 50mm and 135mm. Personally I prefer 85mm and 70-200 for other bits. I used a nifty 50 on crop for years, and even when using the kit lens orginally I was using it at 50mm. Not sure why, it just seems right for the way I see things, so naturally the 85L is the way to go for me. 35mm for smaller rooms, and 70-200 for wandering around countryside, etc.
