We've outgrown our HP MSA's and need 50TB of storage for our mainly HP servers.
This isn't a space that I'm really an expert in but need to make some recommendations.

Apart from HP and their MSA options, along with Equallogic from Dell, is there aynyone else in this space I should consider?
I think 3Par are too large but will be looking at them too.

Other suggestios would be appreciated.

What do you need them to do? Have you browsed the NetApp, EMC, HDS sites to see if they have anything to offer? Is it FC you are after or more of a blend of FC/iSCSI etc

We went through a tender exercise for a similar sized storage system this summer. We ended going for an EMC Celerra with EFD(SSD), SAS and SATA disks with a hefty discount.

Close runners up were Isilon and Sun's S7000 range. Isilon looked very nice, but we got more bang for the buck from EMC (very very large discounts!). Sun did everything we wanted and more, but with the Oracle take over and a product refresh (that's just now been announced) we weren't happy taking the plunge at the time.

Unfortunately NetApp just weren't competitive compared to everyone else, so we didn't really get to compare their offerings properly.

all depends on the performance you require and the budget you have to spend, EMC aren't cheap but they are best of breed and industry leaders for a reason :)

emc celerra at the low end, v-max at the highend

lots of options within those two and it's definitely best to get a fully qualified quote from someone who knows what they are doing.

Do you just want capacity? Or do you want performance, or features?

If it's just capacity then SATA is your friend and you'll want an array whereby you can mix and match FC and SATA in a tray which cuts down most of the traditional array vendors.

Do you want to move away from FC ?? How many devices are going to serve data from your new storage product ?? How much space do you need now, and in the future ??

EMC! ....i'm biased though!!

Exactly what depends on a lot of fators such as your requriements, budget, etc. If you can give more information i'm sure the combined knowledge on this sub-forum can guide you towards some reasonable recommendations to make back to the company.
