512 + 256 = 768??

Hey guys. Quick question, can I combine 1 stick of PC2100 512mb with a PC3200 256mb? Is it worth it? Will it end up being slower then just the 512mb stick on its own? I know that I'll have to run both at the slower 166mhz speed but I can live with that for the extra memory.

The system it will be going into is my old dell 8300 box, P4 3ghz 478pin.

Ok thanks for the help. I'll try and see how far it goes. It's some japanese brand I've never heard of before so not sure just how high a quality it is. Let's hope it will run at 166mhz atleast

Turns out the 512mb stick wouldn't work at all. Not sure why. It was working in the server machine that it was taken out of. So that comp is still stuck with 256mb RAM. My gf has said she'll buy me 2gb of DDR2 RAM for the computer so then she can have my old 1GB of DDR ram.
