Hi folks

I will be purchasing a new mobo and gfx card saturday and have one final question.

Is there any point in buy the 7900gt with 512 meg? I'm torn between the Winfast 7900gt and the gainward 7900gt GS with 512 meg.

I understand more memory better etc etc but is there any real advantage.

I'd say depends on your budget.

If there's only, say, £30-40 between them, I'd go for the 512MB as it'd see you into a new screen if you get one.

However, if you know your not going to get a bigger screen at anytime soon, 256MB probably.

I think 512Mb may be handy. For example, Doom3 iirc has that "Ultra" mode which is supposidly for cards with 512mb of RAM. Then also the Hi-Res packs for HL2 say you should use them on a card with 256Mb+ so that could be better for that as well.

If your buying a decent card, for example a 7900, then I'd go for the 512Mb if you can afford it. I wouldn't give the same advice hower if it was on a 6600 or something like that because more RAM will not really help. :)

So I'd sum up to say there are some areas where its "nice" to have 512Mb. :)
