Hey guys,

Any advice would be appreciated! I already have one Dell 27" U2713HM at 2560x1440 and I want to buy another and extend my desktop which would be a resolution of 5120x2880 right?

I have an i7-4770k and a Z87x-UD5H but no dedicated graphics.

Any ideas on how to achieve the desired res?

Cheers!

EDIT: Rig not used for gaming.

No.. you double the width, not the height. unless your going for 4 displays.

The board will be able to do it as each port will run the standard 2560x1440 res and windows will link them together.

Schoolboy error for me! Cheers mate. So I'll be fine with DP to one monitor and DVI-I(mb) to DP(Monitor) using a passive adapter?

It all depends on the monitor.

One of the ports will run the screen at full res, the other may not if the connector is passive.

What monitors do you have??

If its a display port monitor use a display port cable and you will get full res, its when you use the dvi-i dual link 2560x1600 capable port that you will not see that res if your converting to a display port, itll display 1280x800

EDIT: just checked.

1x DVI-D (1920x1200 max res), 2x HDMI (1920x1200 max res - Switches with DVI), 1x Display Port

You will need a secondary graphics card that can display that res from 2 ports.

The DVI-I connection on the motherboard is only single link so no use at 2560x1440 resolution.

The HDMI on the motherboard is 1.4a so can support 2560x1440 but apparently the HDMI on the monitor doesn't support that resolution.

However, with regard to the HDMI power, we must remark that in our test, it was only possible to run the U2713HM correctly in its native resolution via the DVI and DisplayPort connections.

The monitor only transmits resolutions of up to 1080p via its EDID data via HDMI, so it is not possible to select the native resolution via Windows dialogue. If the native resolution is forced through the graphics card driver or tools such as PowerStrip, the monitor displays the message "Out of Range" for HDMI.

I'm not aware of an adapter that will convert HDMI 1.4a to DP or DVI and will support 2560x1440 so I think you're going to need a cheap graphics card with a dual link DVI or DP connection.
