512MB of DDR vs 512MB of SDRAM!

A pretty ancient PC which someone has dumped on me for an "overhaul":

AMD Athlon (around 1GHz)
ECS K7S5A VER 3.1 mobo
512MB SDRAM (board will take 1GB of SD or DDR but not a mix)
20GB HDD
32MB video card

The faster RAM might help a little with loading times, but not much with only a 1Ghz processor - if you can find an old second hand Athlon XP for peanuts it would be a more worthy combination.

For £150 you could give that one heck of an overhaul, even a modern Sempron would be big time speedy :D

Thanks dude.

Actually it's going to be more like £100 as I have to fork out for a legit copy of Windows. The spanner who build it didn't go down the legal route.

How much for an entry level CPU, mobo and RAM?

I will have a few spare socket A bits and bobs free soon, once my conroe upgrade is built. emailed you via your trust email. Athlon XP 2600+ t-bred, Corsair value 1GB DDR400 kit (2*512) and I also have an ASUS A7N8X deluxe motherboard.

might stick them all up in the MM soonish.
