Hey there guys!

Right, ive had a go at my first overclock today and im a bit stumped. :( Basically, to start off with, i put all of my settings low and found out each max setting for the memory, fsb, cpu and htt speeds. That went fine. :)

Im now running at:

CPU: 3188mhz (236mhz x 13.5) @ 1.475v
HTT: 1180mhz (236mhz x 5)
RAM: 702mhz (354 x 2) @ 5-5-5-13-19-1T @ 2.1v
Other Voltages: Northbridge @ +0.20v. Northbridge + Southbridge @ +0.15v
Load CPU temps: 51C
Idle CPU temps: 27C.

My question is, how can i get my ram into the 800's. Im currently on the 667 divider and want to put it upto 800. I found out that my max memory clock speeds were about 854mhz. If i put the speed upto DDR800, that should put the memory clock at about 840-850mhz. When i put this setting on, i cant boot.

What could i try to do to solve this and get my ram overclocked a bit?

Thanks in advance. :D

Thanks for the reply,

Yeah i tried this, sorry i forgot to mention it. I tried an overclock on a different multiplier of 13x and pushed the FSB to 248 which made my ram speeds exactly 800. The only problem was that i was really unstable and failed orthos tests within a few minutes, i think its because thats as high as my fsb will go. I found out each maximum value first and my fsb would only go to 244 and stay stable. When i put it to 250, i could not boot. CPU was at 3200mhz then which would have been great. I think with a different motherboard, it could become stable but i had passed my max stable fsb limit.

The only thing i could think of is trying different timings or voltages on any of the parts to tweak it. Any suggestions? I still dont understand why it wont boot when the ram speeds would be at about 840/50 which would be below my stable max.

My max values were...

HTT Link: 240 x 5 = 1200mhz
FSB: 244mhz
CPU: I think 3188 or mabye slightly higher if i had better a better max fsb.
Memory: 427 x 2 = 854mhz @ 5-5-5-13-19-1T @ 2.1V

Any help would be great!

Thanks again :D

UPDATE!

After doing a bios update and losing the overclock i had, i had another go and ive managed to get 3.2ghz stable now!

Ive kept the old settings but upped my SB voltage to the max my motherboard will let me go which is 0.375v over stock. Ram is now on exactly 800mhz now and cpu is on 3200.06mhz! Very happy, idle temps are about 35 and load are 55. Vcore is now on 1.5v. I havnt tried any higher but i think that would be really pushing it. Ive already came a long way with this processor.

In the words of Borat: 'Great success!' :D

Nice OC. From looking into the newer Brisbanes, it certainly appears that they need lots of voltage to go over 3.2Ghz.

It also appears you have some room to tighten your RAM timings. Isn't that kit CAS4 at stock?

Thats a nice overclock. I'm on a windsor core and thats a bitch to get over 3Ghz, might gear up sometime and try for a 3.1Ghz, You ever think you can get 3.3Ghz? it is 65nm after all?

@ roadie

Yeah my ram timings by default are 4-5-5-15-2T but my bios is really weird and the ram settings dont change, the first 4 part does but the last number 15 and the following ones do not change. And yeah, according to some other forum, they said my chipset gets rather voltage hungry on the southbridge.

@ Kinitawawi

I think im going to have a go at that later on, 3.3 could be in my grasps, the only thing is i dont really want to push the voltages any further on air cooling, if i had water, i would try. But its a bit risky on air. Ill report back tomorrow of ay attempts @ 3.3ghz.

Thank you both :D

@ Roadie

Woo, thats a massive leap, very nice :D

@ PhillyDee

OO thanks for the heads up, ive changed it now. =] And yeah thats exactly it, i like that feeling of satisfaction after achieving something. :D

@ Kinitawawi

Yeah, ive just gave it a bash on some higher settings, @ 3.3 it starts to load windows then blue screens, on 3.29 it half works and sometimes makes it into windows, other times it doesnt, im going to try 3.25 benching tomorrow i think. This is as far as im going to get it on air cooling i think. I really need to invest into a new case because my ram and chipsets are becoming worryingly hot and there are no sensors on ram and my motherboard isnt reading correctly at all, it goes into minus number when idle and about 25 when on load, this cant be right :S. Has anyone ever tried out the NZXT Apollo ? Im thinking of getting that. =]

Thanks :D

I have a NZXT Lexa and thats good for air cooling. Comes with thermal probes, I have one on my CPU, RAM and one floating around to monitor case temps, also looks good.
