Hi all,

I'm going to replace my PSU soon as its noisy as hell, looking for a quiet, reliable alternative. I'm probably going for the Corsair HX520. Will this be enough to power my system without stressing it too much? There seems quite a bit of price difference between the 520 and 620, so may as well save a few £'s if I can ... ;) My specs:

E6600 @ 3ghz
8800GT very slightly overclocked
Abit AW9D-MAX
4gb RAM (4 modules)
3xHard disc
1xDVD RW
4xcase fans

Thanks for any advice guys.

its a damn good clock lol !

anyway...modular basically means you can manage the cables from the psu a lot easier and also supply power to the components in use (ie graphics card) or at least i think its how it works.

so say if you brought a non modular psu and it came with connectors for Sata power which you dont need, you cant unplug them and are left to try and hide them in a drive bay or the like. (my psu isnt modular)

a modular psu conists of connectors like this

as you can see you can just plug in the ones which you need. rather than faffing about with unused power cables. though modular psus are for the most part more expensive (but now im not to sure as they seem to be at reasonable prices) than just standard psus.

i will probably pick up a corsair modular psu myself if i do upgrade graphics just to be on the safe side
as you can see mine is not modular and instead come out of the psu in one big hole with unused connectors hiding away behind empty bays

I have the HX520. However it only comes with 4 SATA connectors. Can you buy extra connectors seperatly? - I dont mean some crappy molex connector convertor (I have about 4), I want some sleek black looking jobbies.

the cables on the corsair arn't the nicest, they arn't sleeved, they are molded and feel a bit cheap to be honest. Was a bit dissapointed when I got my 620.

nah was only jokin, i cant hurt a poor defenceless corsair :D

i think dont quote or even bother trying this . but if your willing to open up a old psu you have . i think you can actually cut them (or take them out) from the connectors inside the psu. not the safest thing to do but ive seen 3dgameman do it ages ago
