Im in the process of building my i7 system, and im not certain weather to get a new PSU or not. Im a bit strapped for money right now, and if I don't absolutely need a new PSU, then I would prefer not get a new one right now.

I have a Hiper Type M 530W, and i've looked at power consumption charts for i7 systems, and generally speaking, they consume between 300 and 400 watts at full load.

Only problem is this PSU does not have an 8pin PCI express connector, so can I get away with using on of these for my graphics card?

cheers.

I'm fairly sure the Type M PSUs were okay - it's the Type R with problems. I think you'll be okay. The adapter should be fine, what graphics card are you using?

well I havn't actually bought a graphics card yet, but it's most likely going to be an ATI 6 series card. They have pretty low power consumption, so it seems like the best choice.

360W Max on the 12v rail might (will) be a problem if you want to run anything towards the higher end of graphics cards and certainly on something that will need an 8 pin pci-e connector (300W Max draw). Considering an i7 CPU will draw 100W+ especially when overclocked you may run out of headroom really quickly.

My i7 system draws around 350W-400W peak, most of that from the 12v eg CPU, HDD, Graphics card and I have only a 2 x 6Pin PCI-E card (Max 225W).

No........As your 6-pin PCI-E is only rated for up to 75watts..8 pin PCI-E are rated up to 150watts
The rail that your 6 pin PCI-E is connected to inside your PSU may not support 150watts

Only use a dual six pin to 8-pin like this one below and make sure to have both 6 pin sockets connected..
