I really want to go back to a petrol now that I'm not doing the miles or have to pay for fuel, but, as typically as expected finding a 535i with exactly what I want trim wise is a nightmare. I've seen a 535d which fit's the bill perfectly. It's not the latest revised (sept?) x35d engine in the F10 but this isn't really an issue. The closest 535i is £40k but has a black/silver interior and very little spec.

am I really stuck to BMW AUC and pistonheads? I've noticed that not all BMW dealers use the AUC site which is annoying also.

Other than how it drives, is the 535i better? I'm not sure, the 535d offers the same performance and is very refined now :( arrggh, I knew this day would come and make my life miserable.

Spending £40k on a 5 Series just seems completely ridiculous, IMHO.

And thats from a huge 5 Series fan.

Mind you its you so who knows if its true :p

The 535i is better. The 535d isn't bad, by any means, but you will start noticing the unrefined aspects of it when you actually own it. With the 535i, these 'unrefinements' are basically absent.

Unfortunately, in this environment, only north of £35k gets you a year old 53x of some sort. When I bought mine, it was a year old and cost £29k :(

If I can find a 535i that fits the bill, it's a no brainer

You know you want the 535i.

The 535d is marginally quicker but the diesel dagdag is always there.
Even in the heavier GT you can get mid 30s MPG if you pootle along the motorway.
