Moving into a new house in February and I will want to upgrade the living room tv (55" Samsung UE55H6200AK) so that I can put the current TV in the kitchen/diner. Ideally I'd like 60" or 65" as the viewing distance will be greater than I am used to with the 55" but want to balance size with picture quality.

There will be a 120" projector screen in the room for serious film watching, the TV is for day-to-day TV use and gaming with a PS4 pro.

I'm not in a huge rush but noticed there are some deals about such as:
- Free Sky / Sky Q for 12 months when buying an LG 4K OLED
- £200 cash back when buying a TV and broadband

Is anyone aware of any other offers that are enough of an incentive to buy the TV now? Ideal budget is £1k with a maximum budget of £1.5k. The plan is to have Sky Q straight away in 2-3 rooms.

Current favourites are:

LG 55" C7 with the free Sky / SKy Q for 12 months so £1,499 - £384.
or
Samsung 65" UE65MU7000 at £1,299

What are your thoughts please?

Thanks Simmz.

Yes sound is sorted, the TV will never be used for Audio.

My main worry with 55" is that in the old house I sat about 4m from the screen and the new one it'll be more like 4.5m and for the last 6 months whilst we've been between houses I've sat 3m away from it.

I'm in Cotgrave Robocod.

Yes the budget could stretch to 65" but it feels like potentially diminishing returns. The main reason I am hesitant though is I was always of the view that as technologies moves on so quickly I'd rather upgrade more frequently at a lower price i.e. I think I only bought the last tv 3 years ago. I also need to at some point get a new TV for the bedroom so am probably better to spend £1.5k max and then a further £500 on a new bedroom TV.

Cheers though everyone, useful thoughts so far!

Slight update. I went to look at TVs today with the wife and we sat 4m from a 65" and 55".

We both agreed that buying a decent OLED 55" would be a waste as it's quite small so we will end up using the projector most of the time. In which case we may aswell just buy a £600-£700 LCD and accept that it's only for random TV with any proper series we watch or films put through the projector.

We were however quite impressed with a 65" at 4m and think we would use it a lot more for TV series and reserve the projector for films.

It therefore looks like the choice is spend £700 or spend £2500... So £2.5k it is!

Is the B7/C7 still the best OLED at that price point and 65"?

You can get the 65 B7 for £2229 From RS through their telesales and price matching. The difference between the B and C are pretty much just aesthetic. The B is a little more wobbly though.
Where did you use to price match at £2229? That might be the best of both worlds if I can get it for that price plus free Sky / Sky Q for 12 months. Makes it £1905 net cost.

Hi all, sorry for the slow reply. Works has been manic this week.

Thanks for the PM/offer Robocod. I managed to get across to a couple of shops this week to compare some TVs.

After studying quite a few TVs and looking at some direct comparisons between OLED / QLED / LCD I've come to the conclusion that the difference in quality really doesn't bother me enough to warrant the cost. Ultimately proper films will be on the projector and I was extremely impressed with the black levels and brightness achieved by the more budget 65" VA panels.

On this basis I am seriously considering a Samsung 7000 series at £1100 or the Hisense 6800 at £900. Currently leaning towards the Samsung due to better viewing angle and the connections all being in a box at low level as I currently use my amp for all connections but it doesn't support HDMI 2.0

I can vouch for the 6800. It's one of the best value sets available right now.

Cheers RoboCod.

I've mapped out the viewing angle and 30 degrees means that it only just starts to affect one of the seating positions so feels like the impact will be minimal.

One thing I've also realised is that having the connection box on the Samsung doesn't really help as I am still going to have to figure out how to split all sources out to the TV/projector.

Currently I use the amp to manage all inputs and output to the dual HDMI outs on it, but given the Yamaha 1067 doesn't appear to support 4K it looks like I will need to find a new solution. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to manage this? Even using ARC won't help as I assume it'll only function when using the TV?

Sources I will have are PS4 pro, Sky Q 4K, PS3 and Chromecast Ultra 4K

Hi all. Quick update:

Went to Richersounds today and bought the Hisense 6800 65" and the Sony 1080 amp. They didn't have the TV in stock but it's being delivered next week. Total cost £1403 including 6 year warranty on both the TV and the amp.

Thanks for your help in reaching the final decision. The new house completes on the 23rd so will let you know what I think to them both in a few weeks.

Now I just need to decide what to do with the Yamaha amp...
