I don't know much about building pcs but i was looking to build a new gaming pc, mainly for Guild Wars 2 and other gaming.

Was looking to spend either £550 total or £650 total and i'd prefer nvidia graphics card.

Also what fps would you estimate that i could run GW2 on highest settings with a build in this price range.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: Do need an OS, but nothing else.

any reason why an nvidia over an ati?
the current generation midrange nvidia cards are not out yet, so getting an nvidia card in the same price range would have to be a 560ti, which would not be as good as the 7850

Or you could get a second hand GTX 570. There going for around £150 second hand. The e-'coastline' website has a few.

true, fleabay usually has some good deals if sniping is your thing (i just couldnt be bothered)
then warranty would be another concern

Shouldn't someone atleast ask wether he needs an OS, monitor, keyboard etc? lol

dont ask, dont spec ;p trololol
im assuming op already has those =x

If you get a good seller, it should still have a bit of warranty. Though it is an issue, yes. GTX 580's for ~£200 Bargain.

Sorry for double post.

but tbh, if op needs any peripherals, i'd be very sad, cuz mmos in general tend to be taxing on the cpu as well
so the i5k would be infinitely better than the i3 in that regards

He just edited in that he needs an OS :( Although on the upside atleast he doesnt need a monitor too (phew).

A possibility would be to use the developers copy of windows 8 for now. It's officially released in october so you could look to buy your OS then and concentrate your cash on the components now.

Now I appreciate I have gone over budget slightly however.....

I've used a slightly better 7850 than Tam (this has 3 years warranty and a better cooler). The shinobi is a better case but you could use the Asgard Pro to save some cash. The PSU is modular and has more power than Tams XFX suggestion.

There is no real right or wrong answer we all have different tastes and preferences. The 2GB of VRAM on the 7850 makes a lot of sense as it's quickly becoming the standard for gaming.

Hope this helps, any questions or problems god forbid when you build it, you know where we are :)

The OCZ isn't a bad unit, but the XFX 450W will power pretty much any single card setup just fine.

I've spec'd it in really tight budget builds (the XFX). I do try and work modular PSUs into my spec if possible. Especially on midi towers not having the clutter of unused cables can be a big help.

That's true, but I've seen you spec the CM Silent Pro as well...why would you take that over Seasonic\Delta\PCP&C? :p

I'm not sure how XFX have pulled it off actually, it's pretty much Seasonic quality at Corsair CX prices (not that the CX is bad, but it is a Channel Well platform).

Yes i've personally bought a few CM silent pro 600W for builds. It's not a bad PSU for the price at all. I've used the Bequiet L8 (630W is in my HTPC) and the OCZ modular supplies I've used too. There is no XFX modular PSU cheap enough for us to use here so I've used an alternative

Your welcome to do a spec and balance out the budget how you'd prefer. There was a number of threads a while back about the XFX fans making noises but this could have been a bad batch I suppose.

Sure, but I put it in the same class as the CX, which to me means it isn't worth spending ~£60 on one when you can get the other platforms I've mentioned for that cost. I'll agree to disagree as I'd rather not start getting into electrical engineering terms on a spec thread ;)

I know where you are coming from bud. I'm hardly suggesting naff no name units that claim to do 1000W for £40 ;)

If you'd rather he used a silverstone PSU, then put one in the basket and spec around it. I'm sure the OP would love to see your thoughts. He can then read reviews of all our suggested kit and make a better informed decision on what he buys and how to balance the build :)
