Hi

I got a great deal on a B grade Powercolor R9 290 pcs +, so
my systemsetup will look like this :

I7 970 @ 4 Ghz
Powercolor R9 290 Pcs +
Antec truepower Classic 550 W
Corsair H80i
2 x SSD + 1 x HDD
6 fans

The problem is I bought my PSU when I thought I would be getting a GTX 970, but Nvidia changed my plans ;)

Will 550 W be enough for the R9 290 instead? I know it is more powerhungry than the GTX 970

Cheers from Denmark

So I reset my cpu to stock speed and plugged in the R9 290 pcs+.
I have tried a run of unigene valley without any problems. i didn't notice
my psu fan ramming up but it is hard to tell apart from the case fans.
I am going to borrow a kill a watt and take some readings, if everything is ok I will OC my cpu again.
I really dont want to switch PSUs unless i have to.

So I ran a new valleybenchmark with the kill a watt plugged in and my system
topped out around 425 watt. But bear in mind that this is with both gpu and cpu at stockspeed. How much more power will I draw if I oc my cpu to 4 Ghz?

Try Sleeping Dogs benchmark on extreme setting.
Depends how high you need to rise your voltage.
My i3570k do 3.9 Ghz without change in voltage.

I will give that a try.

is there any Antec rep on the forum?
I would like to know what the antec truepower Classic 550 w is rated at
in terms of peak value?

it seems my 550 W is acting like the 650 W model ;)
I can make it exceed the 550 W and draw around 600-620 W

The 550w is what it can deliver to the pc components. It will always draw more power at the wall than it's delivering to the pc.

I am award of this. But is seems that even when I take the PSUs efficiency into consideration it can output more than 550 w to the PC.

How come I am not allowed to send Acemodder a private message ?
