Can anyone describe how much improvement would I get moving from 550D to 5D mark II in terms of picture quality? Usually shot indoors, family and landscape.

Cheers.

what about the 7d

It depends on what kind of shots you take. The 7D is great for fast AF and fast multi-shots but not so great at higher ISO's. I'm not really happy with mine above 400.

People talk about 5D shots having "pop", they certainly have got something that sets them apart from crop sensor bodies. I'm not at all concerned about using mine at ISO's like 6400 or even higher.

But it's not an action body whereas the 7D certainly is, that's not to say of course that you wont get cracking landscape or portrait shots from the 7D.

Something like September next year and at least twice the price.

It will be a cracker though.

£3k for a mk3? doubt it. thats 1D price territory mate. i reckon it wil retail no more then 2.5k at the most. double teh price of a mk2? your having a laugh. many will opt to pay an extra £100 if that for a 1D which offers superior AF then even the 7d plus FF or 1.3 crop

anyways to everyone about the 7d, yea 7d is sensational AF wise thats why i wished 5d mk3 will have AF from 7d. Thats all that is missing from the 5dmk2! vicer versa with teh 7d. if only it had a FF sensor!

Seriously though is the IQ on the 7d compared to 5dmk2 have such a HUGE difference? night and day difference?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was around 3k, according to dpreview when the mark 2 was released it was priced between $3627 and $3857... bearing in mind the exchange rate and the price difference between us and uk I would be very surprised if it is under the 2.8k mark. Time will tell though

Just got back from work. Cheers for the reply guys. Now this reply

In a word, huge. 5D2 much much better at high iso and is full frame so dof will look much nicer.

sums it all up for me.:D

As for lenses, i've already got a 50mm F1.4 and a 70-200 F4 IS. Do I still need a 24-70 F2.8 for indoor shots in museum, churches and at home with the family and friends?

if u get a FF ur 50mm is fine for a walkaround lens.

in regards to mk3. i reckon it will be out way before sep 2012. im thinking first half of next year

I was under the impression the Canon rumours site is talking about September this year, as their comments on the subject started back in February this year.

I just upgraded from a 350D to a 5mkII.. and yeah it's a huge leap in IQ obviously, however do consider the bulk of the camera too -- the 5D is /huge/ in comparison, and a good camera is a camera that is in your bag, not at home...
