550w gold for 3070 enough?

Would it the 550w PSU be enough for 3070?

EVGA 3070 FTW3 Ultra

Two available 8-pin or 6+2pin PCIe

Well, the chaps at EVGA say 650W? daft to skimp on PSU when a 750W isn't going to be a huge lot more ;)

220w GPU
140w CPU
70w for the rest

So should be enough but you don't have much room if you want to upgrade in the future or overclock.

I really wouldn't advise it especially with that particular 3070 as it will draw more power than a standard card. My pc with the cpu at stock and the gpu at stock pulls a maximum of 458w at the wall under the worst case scenario. Even in certain games I am seeing over 330w at the wall. I was also suffering from the Power Kernel 41 error where the pc will just shut down and reboot in the middle of a game and could be related to the power spikes from these RTX3000 series card although it only crashed in this single game. I had a suspect pin on my psu though, a Aerocool Project 7 650w Platinum which is a excellent psu but using a multimeter pin 11 which should read 12v was only reading 8.63v so it got RMA'd. In the meantime I got a 2021 Corsair RM850x and no more crashes so whatever was causing it has been fixed.

It's just enough. However I wouldn't keep the system overclocked or push GPU power limits.

However, given how cheap an RM850x is, you should consider whether it's really worth economising.

One thing about the Corsair RMx series I don't like is the cables. Mine is the 2021 version and the cables are ugly, bulky and very stiff. It's impossible to get a tight bend on the 24 pin and 8 pin EPS due to the stiffness and bulk because of the added capacitors so I am using my braided extensions again. No wonder people pay silly amounts for aftermarket cables!!

Any recommendation for the after market extension cable?

There are full cable sets from the likes of Cablemod and I also believe Corsair sell them as well (what a surprise) but they are stupidly expensive and can cost as much as the psu itself. Personally I prefer cable extensions as they fit all psu's, look good and are much cheaper than a full cable set. The downside is that now you have double the cable length to hide. I am currently using Phanteks extensions (this set) but have also used Bitfenix Alchemy cables and have had zero problems with either. What I like about the Phanteks set is that they come with cable combs. I use these (come in different sizes) on them which enable me to get a nice tight 180 degree bend which neatens things up a lot.

As for suggestions of PSU's without bulky cables I can't really comment as you don't know how stiff they can be until you handle them so checking reviews and user feedback would be a good start. Any PSU's with capacitors in the cables are going to be bulky so that's many Corsair Units for a start. Again, reviews are a good source of information and usually state when a PSU's cables have capacitors in them. The capacitors are there to primarily filter out ripple although most aftermarket cable sets seem to manage well enough without them.
