Hello all,

I recently bough an Asus HD7950 graphics card and for some reason anytime I did anything using the GPU e.g. play a game, the graphics card would switch off so I would have to do a hard reset.

The thing that seemed to fix it was that I swapped out my OCZ ZS 750W for my older Corsair VX 550W PSU. My question is why would the 550W be better than the 750W? Is the 750W rubbish or even why does the graphics card like the lower wattage better? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Interested to know what people think.

The ZS 750W would power that easily. It's not a bad PSU, but it looks like it's faulty. Unless you didn't push the connectors fully in, which can happen. Always double check the connections.

The Corsair VX550 would power a 7950.

Thanks for the input guys. Don't know if its any indication but when the card would "switch off" i noticed that the fans were still going on the card it just wasn't sending a signal to the screen - could that be another indication that the PSU is borked?

I've been using the 550 overnight and it hasnt switched off - it even managed to handle a guildwars2 session!

It's difficult to tell really. components can behave in odd ways if they don't receive the appropriate power. try the 750W again and if it misbehaves then it's faulty.
