I have

AMD 1000mhz @1200mhz (motherboard will only go to 120FSB >_<) 512mb
AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (stock 1800mhz) 512mb
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (stock 1800mhz (unoverclockable)) 512mb
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (stock 2000mhz) 512mb

Intel Pentium 4 (stock 2500mhz (unoverclockable)) 512mb

and a part-time 3800 X2 @ 2.5ghz with 2gb of memory

Why do they all seem to pick up 56 pointers?!
They seem to alternate between better WU's (around 100-200 credits) and 56 pointers. Is something wrong?

Can't speak for anyone else but about half my WUs for several days have been these.

It tends to come and go in phases.
A while ago there were loads of 364 pointers going around and everyone was delighted.

C'est La Vie, I'm afraid.

heh. Figured as much

Now you gotta see if you can find another excuse to use that phrase today :p

Oh well as long as nothings wrong, I mean I followed the indepth foldy setup guide for CLI and everything works luverly, but I wasn't sure if there was something I'd missed.

Luck of the draw mate. On a fast machine, like mine, 56 pointers aren't too bad as they get chewed up and spat out in about 8 or 9 hours.

That 3800 needs to be overclocked within an inch of its life and then made full time! :D

if that's a thunderbird 1GHz Athlon I bet it will go WAY higher than 1200, I ran my Axia at 1500 crunching 24/7 for about 6 months and I think gibbo got his to way higher than that, with a volt mod and water 2GHz was possible.

Get a soft pencil out and unlock the multipliers then you're not constrained by FSB speed.

Old school overclocking for the win :D

I've actually considered that,

I have 2 Socket A's that I've considered unlocking the multipliers on, it's just the hassel of getting round to doing it and first I need some better cooling.

Arrgghhhh OcUK has stopped doing Socket A/462 Thermalright HS :(

I'll have a dig around in my box 'o spares (tm) when I get home, I'm sure I'll have a socket A HS in there somewhere.

see my post in the free stuff thread if I have a spare one....

lol grats ZIP wish I could get a 500 or 600 pointer

Cheers HT, atm they both have stock HSF and cooling wise are about as useful as a cat in a beer glass.

Though at least the cat in the beer glass is mildly amusing. :p

lol rather embarrassing... atm it's... erm.. "not on"

It's not on the network temporarily I will sort it out 2moro probably as I'll be home for a bit. Right now I have to go out until tomorrow morning.

I think I actually have 3 Socket A's.
HT don't worry about the HSF I need to sort out some stuff with all my PC's, atm I'm running out of space in the computer room so it looks like I'll be needing to sort out a rackmount system. I'll buy three good HSF or possibly setup some watercooling for the rack, and look into ocing them when I do. :)

Oh and it seems to do normal WU's i.e. Gromacs, GB Gromacs e.t.c in 2-3 days, only slightly slower than the other rigs.

my tbird 1400 underclocked to 1050 is running at 90c right now and it still hasnt fried, managed to fry my 3000 trying for 300 htt so im a pc down right now and nearly the tbird. That will burn if I dont act on its temps very soon, not sure what this has to do with the thread though but I Get a lot of 56 pointers on my lower rigs such as a p3 733 and p3 450, they either get 56 pointers or 192 ones.

Fixed the 3000+ Rig :D and the tbird is still folding away thank god.
