Hi there,

Friend of mine is thinking of upgrading his 460

Just wondering, with £200 budget would you got for the 560 or the 480? Which would be better? also were he to SLI which would give you more preformance?

Thanks.

480s are quicker at stock compared to a stock 560. Apply plenty of AA and the 480s are even better still. The issue is the 480 is loud compared to the 560 however I have a triplicate of 480s and couldn't be happier :)

Performance: 480
Noise/Temperature : 560

I would go for the 480 personally, but they are both very good cards.

What does he use his computer for? Going from the 460 to the 480 is not much of a step forward depending on what he uses it for, if he does high end gaming then yes since he could then sell the 460 to offset the cost of the 480.

The 480 (as others have said) is loud and hot, I bought the Zalman VF3000-F for it which is still loud at full tilt but it makes a huge difference in temperatures. Just something for your friend to consider ;)

I went from a 460 -> 480 (Giga SE), and while the 480 was massively fast, the heat and noise it put out just wasn't for me.

Changed to a 560 TFII and couldn't be happier, OC's like a charm, and runs ridiculously cool and quiet.

For me I'd take the 560 every time.

Other option is the HD6950 flashed to 6970 that is very popular :)

I have gone down the same road with a GTX480 and Zalman cooler. Recommended. Nice and cool. Not ideal for SLi tho due to triple slot design.
