The X has a slightly higher base and boost but I doubt it'd make much difference gaming wise at 1440p.

Yeah it’s not really worth it.
I had sort of the same situation when looking at the 5700X v the 5800X and the cheaper price, almost the same performance and lower 65 watt TDP were all great factors.
Add the £40 to your savings for a new GPU which will make more of a difference in 1440P gaming.

I did the exactly the same. The extra power and cost of the 5800X over the 5700X just didn't make any sense for my needs nor for the difference in base/boost.
@Wing-Man what @JollyJamma says re spending the savings on upping the GPU is the nail on the head for your decision.

Can both the 5600 and 5600X be undervolted and therefore higher clocks run faster? 'overclocking' if you will
