5600X paired with RTX 2070

Looking to upgrade my system I currently have i5 6600K @4.2GHz, 3200 32GB DDR 4

I don't mind swapping out my motherboard but not sure with AMD what cpu should I get

The 5600X looks good but not if I should get something better?

It is a decent upgrade, but I'd try to either get the 5700X3D, or move onto AM5, since that will offer you more future upgrades and likely better expansion with M.2 slots, newer PCI-E spec, USB ports 'n such.

buy used, i managed to grab a B550 / 5600x / 16gb ram from off eBay for £180 in December

if your buying new as @Tetras says you need to be looking at the 5700x3d as a minimum to make spending to cash worth it.

Yes my everything other then the cpu/mobo, I have some DDR 4 16gb I can give to my son.
