So I'm not an enthusiast but more of a noob with CPU and GPU ins and outs. So I bought a 5800X for £402 (is that even MSRP or a fluke?) and have a 3060Ti.

My main use case would be frequent video editing (nothing intense with loads of stuff on the timeline) and a lot of emulation such as Yuzu and RCPS3. Not really into PC gaming but tempted to try Flight Simulator.

My question is would I be better of with a 5600X which goes as low as £280? They're both the same except for the extra 2 threads right?

The 5600X is a fabulous CPU, and while yes, the 5800X, you have to ask yourself - are you ever going to use that power? Will you need it?

The £150 could go towards a new monitor or something :)

Edit: as you already have the 5800X and got it for £402 I’d keep it!!!!

Good point about the monitor as I am looking to upgrade at some point.

The 5600X is awesome.
The 5800X is also awesome, but the price hike is likely related to the cores being on all one CCD and AMD wanting to keep those for their very high end CPUs.

Whilst the 5600X is the way forward for 2020, the next gen consoles are 8 core (basically a cut down 3700X) and therefore I do think that the 5800X will fare better in the long run.

Only if you're doing a lot gaming though right?
