560ti or 6950?

Yeah I have until thursday which is when I'll have enough money to buy a new card so that means that there will be some new weekly/ daily deals :)

I chose the 560 over the 6950, no regrets at all, plug in, install drivers, game no flashing no messing about and runs everything I throw at it maxed out as well as being pretty much silent

So in other words exactly what would have happened if you had bought the HD6950.

You don't have to flash the HD6950's if you don't want to. Even flashed the gain is minimal. The performance delta to the HD6970 mainly comes from the clocks.

nvidia are 90% of the time plug and go. ati on the otherhand are well.. meh
:o Always someone that starts whining on about Amd drivers.

You are saying that 10% of the time Nvidia's drivers are rubbish?

I have used both vendors over the years(best bang for buck every time) and I could not really say any of them are better than the other.

They can both have their problems though e.g the Amd cursor bug or the Nvidia logon bug.

This.

For my SLI setup I still get flickering/texture problem in Crysis 2, stuttering in Shogun 2, low fps/low gpu utilizatin in The Witcher 2. Can't say nVidia driver is better.

True story. The unlocking only gives 3% performance increase. But the extra vram can be handy and you don't have to always turn down the graphics settings (especially textures/mods) in games.

There's no way I'd spend the best part of £200 on a card with 1gb of ram at the moment. 6950 is the way to go, unless you are avidly Nvidia.

Both Nvidia and AMD drivers are bad as each other, but on topic for the money go for the 6950 twin fozer III or the asus directcu if you dont plan on crossfire.

No not really, i've had issues with ATI in the past and never had one issue with nvidia in what must be over ten years of PC gaming

I'm really quite struggling to decide as on one hand the 560ti is cheaper, has better 3d, can in some cases be as powerful as a stock 570, has physx, but it has it's downsides like 3d surround needs two cards, my motherboard can't do sli which is a minor thing and is why I'm upgrading from my 460, can only do 2 way sli as opposed to the 4 way xfire of the 6950.
whereas the 6950 has eyefinity, more powerful usually at stock speeds, has 2gb of vram, and is able to do 4 way crossfire (my motherboard can do two way xfire but not sli :( ) but it also has it's downsides like it's more expensive, has no physx and has not as good 3d support (I have a 3d monitor btw)

so I'm kinda stuck :(

Overall ATI have got much better with their drivers and I went from two GTX460's to two 6950's guess what still have all the same issues on both cards with Crysis 2. I still would have GTX580 over my current setup but for the money you cant beat the 6950's or even the 5850's (I ordered one of those over the weekend from ocuk cracking deal £99.98).

I can only remark about the 3D on AMD as I was also looking into that and seem you need one of the new 3D monitors that has glasses or a 3DTV which is a downer, if 3D is a big thing for you I would go Nvidia.

it's not a big thing It's just something that I'd like to try but I don't really think that it's such a big deal as to decide which card to get
