I was wondering, seeing as the OcUK deal of the day is a 460 superclocked.

Looked on Anandtech, and a 460 Sli vs a 560Ti is quite a big difference.

Ideas, comments. Yes no?

I mean a 460 Sli would cost bout £220, a single 560Ti will cost around £180. Seems much cheaper for the 460sli

True, but with the 560Ti, you can always add another one in the future. The 460's are good short term but the 560Ti is much better long term as the 460's are really only good as a stop gap until the next gen IMO

The last thing on earth I would ever do (because trust me, I did it and it SUCKS) is buy a pair of weak GPUs and hope that they will work on scaling 100% of the time.

Because when they don't you don't have enough power to make a game run and you are completely at the mercy of Nvidia and so on to make your game run.

What I mean is this.

A single 460 is not powerful enough alone to run a game at 1080p with high settings. Not alone. That means that you then have to solely rely on SLI working all the time, and it doesn't.

If you need proof of that just take a look around the forums TODAY. I see numerous threads asking for help with SLI problems.

Back when I used to be bang into this sort of stuff a site I used to chat on said that 460 SLI beat a 480. Of course they did, when they were working.

Loads of people saw this as a green light to put SLI 460s in their PC and then they all replaced them soon after with 570s. Simply because SLI at the best of times is still a pain. And when you try to fall back onto one GPU a single 460 doesn't cut it.

Please, just use your money and get the best most powerful single GPU you can afford. At least then if you add another one later you won't be completely dependent on SLI working to even be able to play a game looking half decent. At least you can fall back onto one GPU by disabling SLI or something and at least play the games you set out to.
