56k Do not enter!

Unlucky. I used to live in Aycliffe, and the connection was rubbish. The problem is that at the time that Aycliffe was built there was a copper shortage, so all of Aycliffe's phone lines use aluminium which fine for phones but not too good for broadband.

Oh really is that why?! Thanks :)
Hopefully moving to FTTC in a few months.

How is it, nearly 2012 and people still add bracketed tags of (56k warning), (56k no no) etc.

Everyone in this day and age has some sort of broadband, even with 512k being so minimum as well. I especially wouldn't think any OCUK users are still rocking the old 56k.

I guess it's just because it's easier to write 56k warning, therefore interpreted to us as 'hejus christ, lots of images!' - Force of habit, holding onto the past? :P

Beaten above, it's just standard phrase to say it's intensive if your connection speed is slow or their are large files inside, my mobile has 500mb allowance each month which would be drained if I viewed several files each being several MB each.

I have at least two relatives still on 56k, though neither are likely to ever come into a forum let alone understand the warning :p

I've not seen 56k brackets for years, are you browsing forums full of retards?

In fact I only saw the brackets around here when 512k/1mbps was the norm.

Mobile internet. My mums dongle has a crap speed even tho it says 7mbps when it connects and supposedly its good coverage where she is too.

Also data limit of 500mb per month so 56k threads no no threads would probably get that used up pretty quick if ppl go in the high res screenie thread in pc section then theres about 50mb gone once loaded and thats with max post per thread settings.
