Sorry to start another thread in one evening/morning after a night out but..

I noticed the thread (A little culture for GD...(56k beware!)) by Liverpool-Lad which states 56k beware...

Does any one still use this internet connection?? i don't know a lot about the net apart form that broadband is better :p

And when i say use i mean as a main connection, not as a backup provided by some ISPs.

yeh, its amazing I just cant imagine how we ever used the internet at 56k! (Let alone that old 14.4 modem). Surely no one uses 56k anymore?

I got 512kbps blueyonder (now virgin) cable broadband in April 2000 when it first came out which was the shizzle at the time, now 20mbps

Before that I used dial up from 1998, BT openworld IIRC, it was like 2p a minute and seeing as I played Ultima Online for hours a day (old school MMORPG) the phone bills were serious :p

There's a lot of people that use 56k or slower, this website doesn't only work in the UK you know(even though there are still some here)

tbh there is no reason to put 56k warnings. anyone still on 56k should be more than aware that threads can contain plenty of pics regardless of warning.

is it? I though there was still rural areas that can not support boadband. has bt reall rolled out every single exchange?

Yep, it was 99% for a few years like because some of the exchanges as you say in rural areas didn't have many users and it wouldn't be financially viable to enable them for broadband but a year or two ago they just did it anyway to get the figure to 100% enabled

they probably didnt want to, but with all the LLU stuff and other ways to get broadband on the horizon, they needed to do something i guess
