Ok guys i game at 1900x1200 and have had ati cards for years i have a 5850 atm but i want to get into 3d gaming and nvidia is the only option that doesnt require lots off faffing about so to play games at that res ie metro cyrsis arma2 etc ie high powered games is the 580 worth the 100£ more ?

nVidia 3D Vision is designed to make you buy more cards from nvidia. All it does is to render every frame twice, effectively halving the fps. Considering games like Metro and Crysis are not running super fast as is, with 3d they will struggle completely. Hence, I would imagine 580 is a better choice. Maybe 2x570 even.

Games like metro, crysis and arma2 are going to need a lot of grunt to run properly in 3d, more than can be reliably supplied by a single card. I'd suggest getting two gtx570s for a setup like that

I was making the same decision (but not for 3D) and decided the extra £100-120 for a 580 over a 570 wasn't worth it for the extra ~10fps in most games (especially when what we are talking about is already comfortable frame rates). However, as has been stated above 3D vision is going to be very taxing so the minor performance upgrade might warrant the extra £ outlay. If you have an sli capable motherboard my advice would be to buy one 570 and see how it fairs and if you need more power (specifically i'm thinking of Metro 2033 as i think the rest will be fine - may need to reduce a couple settings in 3D) then add a second if necessary.

for playing the most demanding games in 3D, i have to agree. single 580 wouldn't cut it. Question is, which games you plan to play in 3D and are all new games released now 3D compatible?

I got a 580 and I love the card. I game at 1920x1200 and it's beautiful. Not tried 3D but I'm getting a 2nd 580 in a few weeks so that should be good enough for 3D should I decide to go 3D.

Not had any experiences with a 570 though sorry.

Problem is i have amd cpu and dont really want to change the whole computer and psu etc for dual cards so i may have to see if a single 580 will do it ok
