5700XT display port to HDMI or DVI-D

Hi folks,

bought a new rig but using dual older 27.5" 1440p monitors, I now have a Radeon RX 5700 XT.
It has one HDMI but the rest of the outputs are display port. So I need an adapter either to HDMI or to DVI-D.
The monitors only have HDMI or DVI-D. Which port would give the best monitor display or would that even matter?
In looking I think that HDMI is just as good as DVI-D and although the speakers have audio I don't need that signal. Also DVI-D will give me a lockable input jack. So I should get DVI-D.

Am I right or wrong? Should I get HDMI or DVI-D?
I don't intend to display any higher than 1920x1080.

Active HDMI is better to use than try DVI-D. The later has costs involved that for each cable you can easily replace the monitors if cheap ones.
 
I don't really think it makes much difference for the current monitors. Either would be fine. But as, Panos says, you're more likely to be able to use the HDMI adapter on a future monitor if you upgrade at some point.
 
Thought the only difference was HDMI carries audio where the other does not.. which means if using the DVI then audio drivers wont automatically install when Windows picks up the monitors audio through the HDMI?

That and the lack of HDCP are the only differences between HDMI and DVI-D, they are pin compatible with each other, hence why HDMI to DVI adapters are just basic non-active cables.
