Just looking at getting a card. I've had nothing but problems with directx11, and as such I'm not sure if its an nvidia problem or what. I've no particular brand loyalty, and I'm looking about this price range so what are my options?

Also: given that something like the MSI Frozr is overclocked by default, could it be those voltages that are causing system instability?

That's rather odd.

What's your entire system spec, also what do you mean by stable?
What happens really?

Its an overclocked i5 [email protected], 12gb ddr3 ram, 850W corsairHX, and currently the msigtx580 frozrII. It used to have a 470gtx in it and was stable as anything. Since putting in the 580 recently, Ive had kernel power issues, bluescreens, directx11 basically doesn't work. Only thing I can pinpoint is the overclocked gfx card because putting a gtx470 back in works fine. There have been loads of problems recently all over forums (looking at Deus Ex HR especially) with nvidia directx11 drivers (although again the 470 works fine with dx11), so part of me wonders if moving to ATI isn't a bad idea anyway.

I can't test another system sadly, well I suppose I could next week but it'd be a real pain; I'm quite keen to replace now because with the 580 my system just isn't useable. Only problem is with the 7 series coming out what I pay now is bound to come down isn't it?

Fair enough; and I guess the current 6950's will last me a long time, I can always upgrade to crossfire later, assuming a 850HX will power that.

I haven't. Admittedly, I don't have any experience of crossfire. I've read a lot about it, and would just be concerned about instability problems, given thats what I'm having now :p.

Also actually I'd need to upgrade my motherboard to go crossfire as the second pci-e only has 4 lanes. So I guess I'm after a good single card which the Toxic looks like.

I've been running 6870 Crossfire since the 6XXX series launch and it's been quite fine.

If you're adamant on single GPU, 6950 Toxic is the best value at the moment as it has a switch to unlock to a 6970 (Though isn't 100% guaranteed)

Contrary to popular belief, PCI-E 4x won't affect it much at all, tech power up did a review.
Oh right. In that case I think I'll risk the toxic :). Thanks all.

Have you tried your 580 at stock clocks?

I know that at least one of my gtx570`s will bomb out in certain games if they are running at the overclocked rate.

Metro2033 is a prime example, If i run the card at its Pre-OC rate it crashes within 10mins.

Once I downclock to stock I can game forever.
I haven't actually, as the msi afterburner program doesn't have stock speed settings and I didn't want to bugger about with it as I don't know a huge amount.

I know I'll lose some money but if I can shift my 580 and downgrade my card to what is still a good card, and have a stable system I'll be happy. And as above, its not really acceptable when paying a bit more for a factory oc card.
