Hi guys,

Managed to get hold of an old saphire 5770 low profile card,

I was wondering if it is possible to crossfire them at all? or do they have to be in the same series and closer models like 6850 + 6870 for example?
If I cant can I not just have it one of my PCI slots for extra ports? or will that not work?

Thanks

Rob

The 5770 is only able to crossfire with the 5700/6700 (6700 is a rebrand of 5700) family as they share the same GPU core.

Same with the 6850, it can only crossfire with the 6800 family as they share the same core.

If you have Lucid Hydra on your motherboard though, that can allow the two to work together, but it's not as good as true crossfire.

You can plug in the 5770 for extra ports if you wish, but the 6850 can pretty much run up to 6 monitors by itself anyway...

Still its 25 quid when I can just shove a 5770 in to take some of the load away from the 6850, Not bad though, I thought you could have more than one display connected to a DP? how does that work?

Also anyone know of a cheap 6850 Aftermarket cooler? the one I have is noisy as hell, I've tried afterburner and all that and it makes little difference, turning the fan to like 40% is still damned noisy and the card gets so hot! even in my Phantom which has great ventilation =/
