Hi Guys,

Im wanting a new GFX setup as my current 3870 is showing its age now.

My spec is in my sig below - I just wondered if 5770 CF would be bottlenecked by my system and maybe just a single 5770 would be enough.

I want CF aslong as im not wasting my money if the CPU is now dire...

Cheers

On a side note, I had an e2180 @3.2ghz and it was great. In a moment of madness:p got the E8500 @4ghz. Yeah it's better but I wasnt blown away by it. It wasn't really money well spent. It's still a dual-core s775 CPU from a gaming point of view

Depends on what resolution you game at really - anything up to 1680*1050, a single 5770 is enough.

Also in cpu limited situations your better off having the single card. A 5850 or 5870 may perform better in these situations. Also getting a 58xx card leaves you room to go crossfire later.
A 5770 by itself will still be a significant step up from your current card. Depends on how much you want to spend.
I am in same situation as you btw.

sorry for the late reply guys, dont get on the net a lot.

The res would be 1920x1200.

I just get worried as all benchmarks are done with up to date processors and mine may not be good enough for xfire.
May be better with a 5850 as suggested (however the geeky part of me wants to try xfire :p),and now the asus 5770 is on offer with dirt2!

Why not just get a single 5770, see how it performs, and get a second when you upgrade?

Judging by benchies and reviews, a 5770 should run most games well at 1900x1200. If it works, then you've saved yourself £130, if not then you buy a second and haven't lost anything.

Your CPU won't bottleneck 2x5770s more than it will bottleneck 1x5850; if it bottlenecks one, it will bottleneck the other, so you will end up with the machine running at the same speed either way if there's a bottleneck.

Get one now, and a second later.
