ok so im gettin a new pc and trying to decide if i can be bothered with the seemingly large amount of hasstle and technicalities with crossfire...

in a nutshull... what would you rather have, to game at 1080p on?
WERE THINKING BANG FOR BUCK HERE OK?

£210 2x 5770 XFX crossfire, 2gb total (+extra £30m mobo costs)
Or
£175 Sappire 6870 1gb

Is the crossfire worth the extra £65> considering the extra 1gb of ram as well?
Also please factor in overclocking, apparently the 6870 likes to run at 950, just above stock :(

thanks guys, had a lot of confusion about going for a x8 x8 set up to save cash, but apparently it dosent make that much of a reduction.

OR go on flea bay and get 2 x 4870's for £180

which wud perform btter do you think?

Gmes like crysis, call of duty, dragon age, ettc

No it's not worth it.

Plus even though the 2x5770's have 1gb each, it doesn't mean you have a total 2gb of vram for rendering a frame as each card uses it's own 1gb & can't 'see' the 1gb of the other card afaik.

You would be better off with the single card, performance should be similar but the 6870 is cheaper. x8/x8 crossfire makes little difference. Also even with crossfire you only get 1gb of vram as each card mirrors the other.

Defiantly get the single 6870 for less hassle and then maybe in the future you can crossfire another one instead of being stuck with the 2x5770s.

This, I sold my 5770s and got a 5850 so that I could Xfire another later, rather than being stuck with the 5770s (as awesome as they were!)

cool thanks a lot guys, 6870 on the way then. Hard to belive it still works out better now that the 5770s hav come down from £140 to £100... simply amazing
