5770 DVI-I question

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if this was right to go in here or monitors so feel free to move it if it's incorrect.

My dad has a 5770 and it's connected to his monitor using a standard DVI cable and his TV using a VGA cable and one of those little DVI to VGA adapters. The thing is, I think the ports on the back are DVI-I as they have all the pins but I found this online:

This is listed as a DVI-I but it has some pins missing.

Would this work?

Or do I need this one

I basically want to do away with the stubby adapter because it hits the wall when pushed sometimes.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

The pins surrounding the larger flat pin are the analogue pins the missing pins in the middle are the extra pins for dual link digital connection.

Both the adapters shown above will work the fact the bottom has extra pins will not make any difference when using VGA.

You can also buy a DVI to VGA lead and then you will not need an adapter.

Does your dads Tv have HDMi ? The 5770 should have a HDMi connector which would be a better option.

Ah right, cheers for clarifying mate.

The problem is the TV is quite far away and he already had the VGA cable connected (think its 10m) it all works great just worried about bending the pins with that chunky adapter.

I thought all 5770s had HDMI out as well but the one he has purchased doesn't, just mini dp ports.

I think the cable would work but I'd need a gender changer because the VGA is male but that's not too much of a problem.

I'll try and get that adapter I linked earlier and failing that I'll get the cable you linked and buy a gender changer separately.

Cheers mate
