Hi all

Was about to hit buy on a new monitor - sammy 2230h :) but thought I'd investigate this eyefinity malarky once and for all first..

I currently have two 19" panels running @ 1440x900, one dvi each off a 8800gts.

I'm thinking of buying either two sammy 2230h's to run off the gts (for blu ray playback and basic games.. tf2, css and the like)

or..

One new monitor and a 5770 together with a dp-dvi adaptor..

Questions are, will the first setup work for me, and if i go for the second, will the 5770 run all three monitors happily?

Cheers all

Hi there, may I ask what model 8800GTS you have?

For situation 1 (two B2230H monitors running off a 8800GTS), this will work - but due to the jump in resolution you can expect performance to be reduced. For source games you should still be fine, the same for playing blu-rays - however, you may have performance issues with more modern games (though to what degree will depend on which model 8800GTS you have).

For situation 2 (one new monitor + 2 existing monitors + 5770 = eyefinity) this will depend on the 3rd monitor you get. If you get a model with the same resolution as your current ones - then eyefinity will work fine and everything will span over the three screens. However, because your resolution is now 4320x900 (3.8 million pixels) I wouldn't bet on a single 5770 providing good performance. Instead I would strongly suggest something like this heavily discounted 5870 or wait for the new 6900 series.

Its the newer g92 8800gts 512mb. I expected a certain performance decrease, but as i've said i'm only regularly playing tf2 and css. If i choose to play cod games in the future I'll just have to upgrade my gfx card.

Option 2 is looking less likely then.. My budget is about £250 for this upgrade, the ideas being either 2 new 22" monitors and a blu ray drive - or 1 new 22/24" monitor and the graphics card needed to get eyefinity working with the pre-existing 19"s. Is the 5870 a minimum, or just more future proof given that 5770 performance would be strained already?

Cheers for the advice

i ran eyefinity on a 5670 which is 2 bellow the 5770 and it could run games like tf2 and css perfectly fine maxed out 50+ fps and this was on 3 19 inchs so with games like that it will run perfetcly fine :) just saying :)
