Hi peeps,

My mate just built a new system and when trying to run left 4 dead 2 he gets an error : failed to create D3D device and it closes.

System is:

AM2 athlon 64 5200 dual core cpu
Gigabyte socket AM2 mobo
2 Gb of DDR2 ocz ram
XFX 5770
Using windows 7 pro 64bit

My google skills have failed me. All i have found is to re-install older drivers, re-install left4dead, check Direct-x none of which have worked.

Afaik he only has L4D2 on his steam so can't try any other games.

Any help would be great :D

Thanks in advance.

right click Left 4 Dead 2 in my games menu>Properties>Set Launch Options and enter -w 1280 -h 800...This gets you into the game and then to edit settings from there.

Ok thanks. Il txt him tell him to try that.

Hope it works :)

Edit: nope no luck with that one :(

Solution 1: Run the game in windowed mode and then set the resolution.

Right Click on L4D2 > Properties > Set Launch Options > Type in

-windowed or -sw - (Forces the engine to start in windowed mode.)
